Arms of Robert Thurman The arms of Robert Thurman, MC, TD. Granted by the College of Arms, 2004. Note that English arms are granted to an individual and systematically to that person's descendants, and never to all bearers of a particular surname. (In other words, unless you are related to Robert Thurman, this is not your coat of arms, even if your name is Thurman.)

TO ALL AND SINGULAR to whom these Presents shall come Peter Llewellyn Gwynn-Jones Esquire Commander of the Royal Victorian Order Garter Principal King of Arms and David Hubert Boothby Chesshyre Esquire Commander of the Royal Victorian Order Clarenceux King of Arms Send Greeting! Whereas ROBERT DENNIS THURMAN of Newbury Close Silsoe in the County of Bedfordshire Esquire upon whom has been conferred the Decoration of the Military Cross and the Territorial Efficiency Decoration Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects sometime Captain in the Corps of Royal Engineers did represent unto Edward William Fitzalan Howard Esquire commonly called Earl of Arundel and Surrey Deputy to The late Most Noble Miles Francis Stapleton Duke of Norfolk Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire upon whom had been conferred the Decoration of the Military Cross Earl Marshal and Hereditary Marshal of England that he is desirous of having Armorial Bearings established under lawful authority and duly recorded in Her Majesty's College of Arms and did request therefore the favour of His Lordship's Warrant for Our granting and assigning such Arms and Crest as We deem suitable to be borne and used by him and his descendants with due and proper differences and according to the Laws of Arms And forasmuch as His Lordship did by Warrant under his hand and the seal of the Earl Marshal bearing date the Eighth day of January 2002 authorize and direct Us to grant and assign such Arms and Crest accordingly Know Ye therefore that We the said Garter and Clarenceux in pursuance of His Lordship's Warrant and by virtue of the Letters Patent of Our several Offices granted by The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty to each of Us respectively do by these Presents grant and assign unto the said ROBERT DENNIS THURMAN the Arms following, that is to say:- Per saltire Azure and Gules two War Hammers in saltire Or. And for the Crest upon a Helm with a Wreath Or and Azure A Squirrel sejant erect Sable holding in the dexter forepaw a Flash of Lightning Or Mantled Azure doubled Or as are in the margin hereof more plainly depicted to be borne and used for ever hereafter by the said Robert Dennis Thurman and his descendants with due and proper differences and according to the Laws of Arms In witness whereof We the said Garter and Clarenceux have to these Presents subscribed Our names and affixed the Seals of Our several Offices this Sixteenth day of February in the Fifty-third year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lady Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen Head of the Commonwealth Defender of the Faith and in the year of Our Lord Two thousand and four.
